I tutor elementary and high school students in mathematics.

Sometimes students simply need to have classroom lessons repeated a slower pace in order to catch on, but sometimes they need to come at a topic from a different angle altogether. Years of experience have helped me with coming up with alternate approaches, but it would certainly be useful to share ideas with others. Some students are very challenging!

I don't want to create a group just to talk to myself. :) If this is a topic of interest to you, please let me know.

--Laura

Hi Laura,

Were you thinking of this as a tool for other tutors and educators to interact and discuss, or for students to ask questions? If it were to be aimed at other teachers and tutors there are quite a few already within the Equalis community who would most likely be interested! I think a forum would be the best way to go since it offers a better environment for back and forth conversation and question and answers. On the other hand, our groups have a lot to offer, such as blogs, calendars, events, and photo galleries; all of which can be customized and personalized.

Thanks,

Hi Laura,

For the forum name, I was thinking something along the lines of "Educating Each Other" or "Educators Solving Problems" with the tag line of: "Discuss topics and ideas with other teachers, tutors, and professors to learn new and different approaches to teaching."

Let me know what you think.

I like that you've made the concept more inclusive than just tutors -- we can certainly learn from each other even if we work with students in different settings!

I'm concerned that the suggested forum names may not get across the idea that this is people who know a topic discussing strategies to help those struggling with that topic. My suggestion (but I'm certainly open to more brainstorming!) would be "Math Coaching Strategies".

B.
